How did I lose myself?
Always trying to
measure up

Never enough, never enough

waiting for you to
judge me
it will always come eventually

never enough, never enough

stalked by the ghost of
who I couldn't be
tormented by what I could
not achieve

try to erase that smudge,
or just
draw me all over again
paint this picture until it
flows just right

never enough, never enough

I don't believe in your
understanding

who would I be if things
had been different
sometimes I make me wish
I had never been born

Never finding the acceptance I seek
I need,
I long for,
I can't live without

Not from you
from me

Sometimes the way you're raised can make you a perfectionist.
Luckily, with time and lots of effort, this is something that can be got over.

Somehow it makes me a little sad. I was raised in a family with bunch of perfectionists, I feel it to the marrow of my bone. >x<

My family is far from being of the perfectionist sort but for some reason I am a huge perfectionist. I find myself always thinking like this, comparing myself to others and trying to better myself for no reason. Any grade for me that is less than a 95% isn't good enough. My boyfriend's past girlfriends are sometimes fluttering through my mind so I can see if I'm better, but usually just think I'm worse. Oh well, very good poem.

Yeah, my parents were that way too.
But I've managed to break free a little. Im not so hard on myself anymore.

I used to be that way too. But I worked really hard to stop trying to make myself perfect.
One thing that really helped was every day when I woke up I'd repeat in my head, "Im good the way I am."
Hope you can learn you don't need to be perfect. :hug:

I like this a lot, my love is bit a perfectionist and it kind of sounds like something he would say, or has said. It is sad and I hate that he feels like that. Very good poem!
